Between 2010 and 2015, 880 police officers in Texas’s 36 largest cities were involved in 656 shootings. Unfortunately, readily available and consistent data on such incidents is essentially nonexistent.

The following piece is the result of a yearlong Texas Tribune investigation into every single one of those 656 shootings. While the findings, which include information about implicit bias, race, and mental illness are not entirely unexpected, the depth and quality of reporting ensure that the article is worth your time.
