The upcoming Netflix film "The Irishman" has garnered attention for its pedigree, as the organized crime tale is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino. We're told that the yarn is based on a true story, and it depicts real-life figures like Jimmy Hoffa, mobster Crazy Joe Gallo, and Frank Sheeran, its titular Irish man. In an effort to separate fact from Hollywood fiction, writer Bill Tonelli tracked down the real-life cops and robbers who knew Sheeran, and learned that almost everything you'll see in "The Irishman" is probably a hoax.
