People like Henry Scragg have attracted scores of Instagram followers for accounts that offer human remains - typically bones, often rare ones - for display and sale. While some merely shake their head at the craze, characterizing it as "wacky" or "eccentric," others view it as a step backwards for society. After all, museums are finally working to acknowledge the dark side of colonialism by removing stolen goods from display and finding more sensitive ways to educate visitors on the significance honoring the dead has in most cultures. The ability to buy remains on Instagram, archeologist Damien Huffer says, reverses much of that progress, and “has transformed what was a fringe practice into a viable, global free for all.”
